Senegalese Prime Minister Ahmadou Alhaminou Lo backed the resumption of advertising agreements between the state and the media on 19 October 2026, provided they are based on a transparent, updated framework. He created an inter-ministerial committee to define objective allocation criteria, taking into account media compliance with the Press Code, among other factors, according to Lesoleil.
Senegalese Prime Minister Ahmadou Alhaminou Lo gave a favourable opinion on 19 October to resuming advertising agreements between the state and the media, provided they are governed by transparent rules and rationalised management of public spending, according to a letter addressed to Communications Minister Bacary Sarr.
An inter-ministerial committee will set allocation criteria based in particular on compliance with the Press Code, audience, performance and the territorial coverage of media outlets. It will also monitor the use of public funds and ensure that financial commitments meet established needs.
Chaired by a representative of the prime minister, the committee will bring together representatives of the presidency, the ministries concerned, the newspaper Le Soleil, Senegalese Radio and Television (RTS) and the private press. Its conclusions are expected by 30 October at the latest.
The proposed resumption comes after the prime minister’s consultation with media stakeholders, published on 17 October. That same day, he also challenged the RTS social agreement, in a separate case concerning the operation of the public media organisation.
