Thamo Mzobe, regional manager of South Africa’s social security agency SASSA in KwaZulu-Natal, was placed on precautionary suspension from 28 October 2026. The measure follows a request from her former employer, the National Development Agency, for disciplinary proceedings to be initiated, SASSA says.

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) placed Thamo Mzobe, its regional manager in KwaZulu-Natal, on precautionary suspension from 28 October 2026. The measure follows a request from her former employer, the National Development Agency (NDA), to initiate disciplinary proceedings, according to a SASSA statement reported by the Mail & Guardian.

SASSA says the request falls under section 16(4B) of the Public Service Act of 1994 and that the agency, as Mzobe’s current employer, must co-operate with the NDA. SASSA spokesperson Paseka Letsatsi said the suspension is an administrative measure and does not constitute a finding of guilt.

The agency says the proceedings will be conducted in accordance with the applicable rules and policies. It stresses that Mzobe is presumed innocent until the process against her is complete, reports the Mail & Guardian.
