Michellene Muzenda, a supervisor in Mutare, has been sentenced to two years in prison for falsifying sales records and embezzling US$16,241.05. The fraud, committed over four months, was uncovered by reconciling records with ATM statements, according to Zimbabwe’s National Prosecuting Authority.
Michellene Muzenda, a 25-year-old supervisor in Mutare, Zimbabwe, has been sentenced to two years in prison for embezzling $16,241.05 from her employer by falsifying daily sales records. The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) said the falsifications took place from 5 November 2025 to 17 March 2026.
The employer discovered the discrepancies on 17 March when comparing the sales recorded in the cash book with ATM statements. An audit later revealed that the figures had been altered to conceal the missing funds, according to the NPAZ. Police recovered $700 in cash, as well as goods from Muzenda’s shop at Tinmark Shopping Centre in Mutare, which were allegedly bought with the embezzled money.
The accused had initially been sentenced to six years in prison. Two years were suspended for five years and another two on condition that she repaid her employer, leaving an effective sentence of two years, according to the prosecuting authority.
