The Institute of Engineers Rwanda (IER) and MUA Insurance signed an agreement in Kigali on Wednesday 28 October to offer Rwandan engineers tailored insurance products, reduced rates and risk-management training. The agreement was signed by IER President Philbert Mbanza and MUA Insurance representative Konde Bugingingo, Taarifa reports.

The partnership covers engineers, technicians, technologists and engineering consultancy firms represented by the IER. It notably provides for consideration of professional indemnity insurance to cover errors or omissions that may occur during design, construction or on-site work.

The IER has more than 5,000 members and its membership is growing by about 25% a year, according to Philbert Mbanza. MUA Insurance plans to differentiate its offers according to the activities carried out, while the two organisations will organise continuing education sessions, workshops and exhibitions on risk management.

The agreement is part of efforts to expand access to insurance in Rwanda, where the country aims for insurance coverage for 45% of adults by 2035.
