A Russian drone attack killed one person in Ukraine’s Sumy Oblast, according to Le Monde. Other Russian strikes also killed and injured people in the Donetsk, Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia oblasts, as Moscow continued its attacks on Monday.
Russia launched 433 drones at Ukraine overnight from 31 October to 1 November; Ukrainian defences intercepted or neutralised 371 by 7.30am, according to Ukrainian authorities cited by The Zambian Observer. Strikes hit 16 sites and damaged homes and energy infrastructure, causing emergency power cuts in several areas.
Russian bombardments hit a thermal power plant in Kyiv, as well as four substations and a gas distribution facility in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, leaving hundreds of thousands of households without electricity. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported the damage, as the strikes form part of Russia’s war against Ukraine.
The truce that enabled civilians to leave Olechky, a Ukrainian city occupied by Russia, is due to end on Sunday evening after several days without any reported violations. The ceasefire, the longest since Russia’s February 2022 invasion, comes as fighting and strikes continue elsewhere, according to Agence France-Presse.
Ukraine says Russian forces used the ceasefire in Oleshky to reinforce their positions. The accusation comes after civilians were evacuated from the Kherson region and the ceasefire ended, according to Ukrainian authorities.
