The registration number for the building that collapsed in Nairobi’s Eastleigh district does not appear on the Kenyan National Construction Authority’s public portal. The authority had nevertheless said the project was registered and identified its developer, while Governor Johnson Sakaja confirmed that it had no occupation certificate, Tuko reports.

The registration number 53128815710410 for the Eastleigh construction site in Nairobi returns no results on the public portal of the National Construction Authority (NCA), although the authority provided it after the building collapsed. The verification was reported by Tuko on 23 October, after internet users searched the official platform.

The NCA says it registered the project on 30 July 2025 under land reference 36/II/40. It identifies 9th Street Plaza Limited as the developer, Stromax Holdings E.A Limited as the contractor, Emmanuel Mwangi Maina as the architect and Joseph Muturi Mugu as the structural engineer, according to its statement cited by Tuko. Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja said the building had planning permission but no occupation certificate.

The building collapsed on 23 October at around 1pm in the commercial district of Eastleigh, where several businesses were destroyed. The incident comes as unapproved plans are being blamed in the case and one person remains missing.
