Vladimir Putin accused developed countries and multinational companies of abusively exploiting Africa’s natural and human resources. At the Russia-Africa summit in Moscow, the Russian president presented local processing of raw materials as an alternative, reports the Daily Post Nigeria.

Russian President Vladimir Putin accused certain developed powers and transnational companies of practising economic imperialism and plundering Africa’s natural and human resources on Wednesday. Speaking at the Russia-Africa summit in Moscow, he said that Russia did not engage in “predatory” and neo-colonial exploitation, according to the Daily Post.

Vladimir Putin presented the local processing of raw materials as Russia’s approach, referring to the creation of jobs and revenue for African economies. He also said that Africa was establishing itself as a major player in the global economy and politics, despite resistance from countries attached to their colonial past, according to the Daily Post.

At a reception in the Kremlin, the Russian president proposed cooperation with African countries against terrorism, extremism and epidemics. He also cited food, digital and environmental security as areas of cooperation, while saying he was ready to help resolve crises and prevent new areas of tension. He lastly recalled the Soviet Union’s support for African emancipation movements and highlighted current coordination between Moscow and African capitals in favour of a multipolar world order.

The statement came during the Russia-Africa summit, after Vladimir Putin presented a partnership based on autonomy and defended a multipolar world on 29 October.
