Mauritania's Interior Minister, Mokhtar Ould Ahmed Bouceif, says ARMA's performance in keeping Nouakchott clean is inadequate. He has given the company until the end of December to address the problems identified, failing which the authorities could turn to other solutions, according to Saharamedias.
Mauritania's Minister of the Interior, Decentralisation and Local Development, Mokhtar Ould Ahmed Bouceif, has given ARMA, the company responsible for waste collection in Nouakchott, until the end of December 2026 to address shortcomings and meet its contractual commitments. He said the company's performance was below expectations at a meeting on cleanliness in the capital, Saharamedias reported.
The minister called for a plan to remove waste accumulated at temporary dumps and for all available dumps to be brought into use. He also ordered an assessment of the Tifirit landfill site and decided that, from Monday 2 November, ARMA's logistical resources would be made available to Nouakchott's three walis to strengthen field operations.
Mokhtar Ould Ahmed Bouceif also called for alternative solutions to be considered before the deadline given to ARMA expires. This preparation is intended to avoid a disruption to service if another provider has to be selected. The meeting came after the Idini project was completed to supply Nouakchott with water, announced on 19 October 2026.
