Nigeria’s NYSC prepares to manage certificates electronically

National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Director-General Olakunle Nafiu has urged officers responsible for certificates to strengthen their digital skills and tackle forged documents, inconsistent records and illicit operations. The service plans to introduce an electronic records management system, he announced at a workshop in Abuja, according to Daily Post.

Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, Director-General of Nigeria’s National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has asked certification officers to prepare for the forthcoming introduction of an electronic records management system, Daily Post reports. He was speaking at the 2026 certification officers’ workshop in Abuja.

The system is to replace paper-based procedures for producing and issuing the National Service Certificate. According to Nafiu, who was represented at the workshop by Grace Ogbuogebe, the NYSC’s Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, an integrated digital repository will allow faster access to records and tracking of their processing, while strengthening accountability mechanisms.

Nafiu also called for efforts to prevent certificate forgery, fraudulent operations, inconsistencies in records and delays in issuing certificates. The system is intended to protect archives from deterioration, loss and unauthorised changes, as users demand faster, more transparent and accessible services.
