Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says Israel must prepare to circumvent possible banking sanctions through an alternative economy, notably based on blockchain. In a programme broadcast before the elections, he said he had ordered preparations for such a plan, without naming the countries that might impose the sanctions, reports Channel 10.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has called for preparations for an economy capable of operating despite possible international sanctions, particularly in the banking sector. He made the request during a televised debate broadcast on Israeli channel Channel 10 ahead of elections scheduled for Tuesday, reports L’essentiel with AFP.
Asked about the possible use of blockchain, a technology that enables exchanges without a central intermediary, Benjamin Netanyahu answered in the affirmative. He did not specify which countries might impose sanctions on Israel, but referred to “devastating” measures if his government were re-elected.
The United Kingdom and other countries have already sanctioned products from Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank, after settler attacks on Palestinians and the construction of settlements. Benjamin Netanyahu also acknowledged his concern about the changing position of the United States and called for Israel’s dependence on US military aid to be reduced, according to L’essentiel.
