A Malawian parliamentary committee is investigating a one-hour discrepancy over the discovery of the wreckage of the aircraft carrying former Vice-President Saulos Chilima and eight other people. Hearings pitted the army's and police's accounts of when it was discovered against each other, according to the report presented to the committee.
The special committee of the Malawian Parliament tasked with investigating the Chikangawa plane crash has identified a one-hour discrepancy in the time the wreckage carrying former Vice-President Saulos Chilima and eight other people was discovered. The Malawi Defence Force recorded the discovery at 10.58am, while the Malawian police reportedly gave the time as 9.30am.
The parliamentary committee is seeking to establish the origin of these two conflicting times, as the exact time of discovery could affect the examination of how the search unfolded and the preservation of evidence. The discrepancy concerns the accounts of the Malawi Defence Force and the country's police service.
