Burundian journalists face low wages, power cuts, limited internet access and falling advertising revenues. Public and private media professionals say these economic difficulties are weakening journalistic work and could undermine the sector’s independence and survival, reports Breaking Burundi.

Burundian media are being weakened by low wages, power cuts, a lack of equipment and difficulties accessing information, according to Breaking Burundi.

Journalists and managers of public and private media outlets are also facing the rising cost of living, fuel shortages, an unstable internet connection and falling advertising revenues. These constraints are complicating daily work and raising questions about the viability and independence of the profession in Burundi, reports Breaking Burundi.
