Khalifa Sall, former mayor of Dakar and president of Taxawu Senegaal, is calling on the Senegalese state to act against irregular migration after a pirogue sank off Lompoul, in Kébémer department. He believes deaths at sea must not become a normalised situation, according to Seneweb.

Khalifa Sall is calling for a response that goes beyond border controls and involves the state, local authorities, families, economic actors and society. He is advocating the creation of opportunities and the restoration of young people's confidence in their future in Senegal, according to Seneweb.

The call comes after the migrant boat sinking in Kébémer, whose death toll reached 34 on 8 November. On the same day, President Bassirou Diomaye Faye mobilised the state after the sinking in Lompoul.
