A Comorian law on domestic trade bans foreigners from certain small-trading activities in the archipelago. Promulgated on 27 July after its adoption by the Union Assembly on 15 June, it has sparked public debate, according to Comores Infos.

The Comoros now reserve certain small-trading activities for Comorian nationals by origin. The provision is included in the law on domestic trade, promulgated on 27 July after its adoption by the Union Assembly on 15 June, and has sparked vigorous public debate.

Led by the Ministry of the Economy, the law aims to modernise the organisation of national trade, strengthen its regulation and bring it into line with OHADA rules, the organisation responsible for harmonising business law in several African countries. Article 26 provides for the restriction targeting foreign traders.
