The Comorian island of Mohéli is at risk of a total power outage after another reduction in diesel deliveries to the Sonelec thermal power plant. The electricity company warned of the blackout threat in a statement published on Monday, as supplies to the plant remain insufficient, according to Comores Infos.
The Comorian island of Mohéli is at risk of a total blackout after deliveries of diesel to the thermal power plant operated by Sonelec, the Comoros’ national electricity company, were reduced. The Comorian Hydrocarbons Company (SCH) will be able to supply only 1,000 litres a day, compared with the 7,000 litres needed for the plant to operate normally, according to a statement issued by Sonelec’s regional management on Monday 3 August.
Supplies have fallen progressively, from 7,000 to 5,000 litres, then to 3,000 and 2,000 litres, before reaching 1,000 litres. This latest reduction directly threatens the continuity of electricity supply on the island.
