Zambia has enough electricity to avoid a return to power rationing, Vice-President Mutale Nalumango said before the National Assembly on Friday 23 October. She attributed isolated outages reported in some areas to routine maintenance, the Daily Mail reports.
Mutale Nalumango also said the Zambian government had set aside 14.7 billion kwachas in the supplementary budget proposal to settle arrears owed to farmers who had delivered their crops to the Food Reserve Agency. The funds still require approval, according to the Daily Mail.
The vice-president also defended the government’s functioning despite the cabinet’s reduced composition, saying this would not jeopardise the adoption of the 2027 national budget. She also said President Hakainde Hichilema’s election as vice-president of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa, Comesa, should help Zambia expand its export markets, according to the Daily Mail.
