The second day of the WCAF V forum, devoted to trade between the United Kingdom and French-speaking West and Central Africa, focused on Wednesday 21 October in Conakry on access to financing for Guinean SMEs. Amadou Kaba, CEO of the GPC group, said the forum could help them obtain British capital and build partnerships, Guinee360 reports.
Closer ties with British companies could also help Guinean SMEs gain access to equipment and technical support, according to Amadou Kaba. He cited the Simandou 2040 programme, a plan to transform Guinea’s economy, as one of the areas that could benefit from British investment.
The executive said companies would need to prepare their projects before approaching financiers, including AF Capital. Dialor Thiam, the Department for Business and Trade’s regional director for French-speaking West and Central Africa, described the forum as a platform for establishing lasting partnerships between governments, businesses and investors.
The second day followed the opening on 20 October of the UK-Africa forum in Conakry. The previous day, UK Export Finance had signed a $2 billion agreement for Guinean projects.
