South Sudan's caretaker Jonglei governor, Moses Majok Gatluak, has appointed caretaker commissioners for Twic East and Duk counties. The appointments come as tensions remain high in the two territories, according to Radio Tamazuj.

The caretaker governor of Jonglei State, South Sudan, Moses Majok Gatluak, has appointed caretaker commissioners for Twic East and Duk counties, which have been affected by intermittent violence between young people since 2023. Chol Deng Gatluak was appointed caretaker commissioner of Duk, replacing John Chatim Ruei, according to the governor's announcement.

The violence has intensified in recent weeks. More than a dozen people were killed last week when a group of armed youths from Twic East attacked residents of Apiir Palaidhiim village, in Duk County. The attack followed several incidents in different parts of Twic East.
