Tunisia and the European Union are seeking a solution to an exceeded fishing quota for red shrimp, a Mediterranean resource subject to sustainability rules. EU ambassador Giuseppe Perrone also says he is open to dialogue on modernising the 1995 association agreement, particularly on investment and energy, reports La Presse.
Tunisia and the European Union are continuing negotiations to find a lasting solution to the overshooting of the red shrimp fishing quota allocated to Tunisian exports. The EU ambassador to Tunisia, Giuseppe Perrone, said this on Friday 23 October 2026 on Express FM, reports La Presse.
Giuseppe Perrone said the discussions needed to reconcile the interests of both sides with the protection of the resource in the Mediterranean. The quota system is established by the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean, which brings together several countries concerned. The ambassador added that the EU was ready to examine Tunisia’s requests and proposals and take into account the positions of the commission’s other partners.
Brussels also says it is ready to discuss with Tunis the modernisation of the association agreement concluded in 1995. The talks could cover investment, energy and industrial integration, according to statements by Giuseppe Perrone reported by La Presse.
