Senegalese internet users criticised several local influencers for not attending the opening of the Dakar Youth Olympic Games or sharing the event. The criticism emerged on social media after the 31 October 2026 ceremony, Le Soleil reports.

Senegalese influencers are being criticised for neither attending the opening of the Dakar Youth Olympic Games (YOG) nor sharing the event on their social media accounts, Le Soleil reports. Followers accuse them of remaining silent while Senegal hosts the first African edition of the competition.

The criticism has sparked a debate about the role content creators are expected to play in promoting a national event. Some internet users have nevertheless asked whether these influencers had been invited or contacted by the organisers, Le Soleil reports.

The opening ceremony was held on 31 October at Abdoulaye Wade Stadium, with Senegalese culture highlighted. It notably featured a performance by singer Baba Maal, according to the account of the opening of Dakar YOG 2026. The controversy follows the opening of the Dakar YOG 2026 in Senegal on 31 October.
