The General Authority for Regulation and Control announced increased monitoring of telecommunications quality after consumer complaints reported by Rstp.
The General Authority for Regulation and Control of São Tomé and Príncipe (AGER) has announced increased checks on the quality of telecommunications services, as customers criticise the services provided by operators CST and Unitel. The measure comes amid criticism on social media and complaints about the cost and consumption of internet packages, reports RSTP.
AGER president Cândido Frota acknowledged that services, particularly internet, are beyond the purchasing power of part of the population. He said the regulator was monitoring complaints and had to act with operators to ensure that tariffs were compatible with household incomes.
CST executive committee president Jorge Frazão explained that the development of the offers did not depend solely on his company. CST internet packages range from 10 to 990 dobras; Unitel’s follow a similar price range.
Unitel STP deputy managing director Luís Mendes attributed the perceived increase in data consumption to habits on digital platforms. According to him, customers use the internet more than before, resulting in spending above the amount recharged.
