The Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has called on contenders for the vacant Olufon of Ifon-Omima throne in Ondo State to prioritise dialogue. The succession has been blocked since the death of King Israel Adeusi in 2020, according to the Ifon-Osun monarch facilitating reconciliation.
The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has called on candidates for the vacant Olufon of Ifon-Omima throne in Nigeria’s Ondo State to prioritise dialogue to end the conflict that has blocked the succession since 2020. His message was delivered by Oba Peter Ipadeola, the monarch of Ifon-Osun, who came to facilitate reconciliation between the contenders and other stakeholders, Punch reports.
The throne has been vacant since the death of Oba Israel Adeusi in 2020, as the community has been unable to choose a successor because of disagreements over the selection process. Oba Ipadeola said the absence of a king limited Ifon-Omima’s representation to the government and traditional institutions.
Community leader Tunde Eniolorunda called on the Ondo State government to allow the selection process to resume in accordance with the customary declaration in force, through a transparent procedure without interference. He also called for an investigation into the murder of Oba Adeusi, the circumstances of which remain a major concern for the community, according to Punch.
