By the AFREEQUE newsroom, based on Vanguard

This press review covers several reports already published on Nigeria’s response to Ebola and the 90-day economic plan. It also mentions social tensions and political statements, according to Vanguard’s newspaper review programme.
The Nigerian government has stepped up measures to contain the confirmed case of Ebola virus disease, placing high-risk contacts in quarantine and isolating other contacts. It has also strengthened preparedness in states and health facilities, Vanguard reports in its press review on Friday 23 October.
The Guardian newspaper says political campaigns, conferences and other large gatherings can continue, pending any possible change in the health situation. The position comes as Nigeria has confirmed an isolated case of Ebola in a female traveller.
On the economic front, the National Economic Council (NEC) approved a 90-day action plan proposed by the Federal Ministry of Finance to consolidate the effects of President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms. The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) is also threatening national action after talks with the government failed over workers’ living conditions, the price of petrol and other demands.
The Punch reports that former president Olusegun Obasanjo accuses Bola Tinubu of impoverishing every Nigerian by 300% through the devaluation of the naira. The Nation finally reports that Atiku Abubakar, a former vice-president and presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), is calling for the immediate publication of the preliminary electoral register ahead of the 2027 general election.
