Kenya’s meteorological service has placed Nairobi and several dozen counties on alert for rainfall exceeding 20 millimetres between 24 and 30 October 2026. Winds of more than 46 kilometres per hour and flash floods are also expected in several regions, according to Kenya Met.
Kenya’s meteorological service has placed several regions on alert for rainfall of more than 20 millimetres expected from 24 to 30 October 2026, particularly along the coast, in the north-east, west, the Rift Valley, the central highlands and the south-east, Kenyans reports. Nairobi is also affected by the forecast issued on 23 October.
The rainfall could be accompanied by winds exceeding 46 kilometres per hour, especially in coastal, eastern and northern areas. The Kenya Meteorological Service Authority warned residents of a risk of flash floods, including downstream from areas where rainfall will have been light, and of reduced visibility.
The alert concerns Mombasa, Kilifi, Garissa, Wajir, Mandera, Kisumu, Nakuru, Kiambu, Meru, Machakos and Makueni in particular, as well as several other counties. The meteorological service also forecast waves of more than two metres at sea on Sunday 25 October and urged fishers and maritime professionals to exercise caution.
The new alert comes as the start of the October-November-December rainy season, strengthened by the El Niño phenomenon, is delayed in several regions of Kenya, where dry conditions and high temperatures persist, Kenyans reports.
