More than 150 migrants who left Lamin, Gambia, have been missing for 13 days after departing by boat. Alarm Phone says it has received no news from the passengers and fears a shipwreck on the Atlantic route, Seneweb reports.
More than 150 migrants have been missing since a boat left Lamin, Gambia, 13 days ago, according to Alarm Phone, a volunteer organisation that alerts and assists migrants in distress during sea crossings to Europe. No contact has been established with the passengers since their departure, Seneweb reports.
The lack of news has raised fears of an unreported shipwreck on the Atlantic route. Alarm Phone received an alert concerning the pirogue, but no concrete information about the passengers’ fate has been provided, according to Seneweb.
The alert comes five days after an article about migrant departures shifting to Gambia as a result of strengthened migration controls (migrant departures to Gambia). It also follows the recovery of 12 bodies off the coast of Gambia on 15 October (12 bodies recovered after shipwreck).
