Lembá bridge delayed a year by geotechnical studies
By the AFREEQUE newsroom, based on Telanon

Construction of the new bridge over the Lembá River is a year behind schedule after soft ground was discovered beneath the old structure. Geotechnical studies required excavation of more than 30 metres, according to Adelino Cardoso, director of the National Roads Institute, cited by Telanon.
Construction of the bridge over the Lembá River in the north of São Tomé and Príncipe has been delayed because the initial project did not include a geotechnical study of the subsoil, Telanon reports. Work, launched in June 2025 by Prime Minister Américo Ramos, was to be supplemented by further technical studies.
Adelino Cardoso, director of the National Roads Institute, rejected the suggestion that construction had been launched prematurely. He explained that the project submitted for the tender still required certain technical assessments, according to Telanon.
