Tanzania’s Ismaili community mobilised volunteers and partner organisations to clean Coco Beach in Dar es Salaam for Global Ismaili CIVIC Day. The global programme says it has brought together more than 250,000 volunteers across 5,500 activities and supported the planting of 4.5 million trees, according to its Tanzanian officials.

Members of Tanzania’s Ismaili community led a clean-up of Coco Beach in Dar es Salaam, alongside volunteers and partner organisations, the Daily News reports. The initiative was part of Global Ismaili CIVIC Day, a community service programme of the Shia Imami Ismaili Muslim community.

The local operation was part of activities organised in several countries to promote environmental protection and cooperation among people of different faiths and backgrounds. Kamal Khimji, president of the National Council of Ismaili Shia Muslims in Tanzania, spoke during the exercise.
