Tanzania’s Manyara region now has about 2.16 million inhabitants, up from 1.8 million in the 2022 census, according to regional statistics officer Gidioni Mokiwa. The increase could boost agriculture, trade and mining by strengthening demand for goods and services, he explained at a trade fair in Babati.

Official statistics produced by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) are essential for planning economic and social activities in Tanzania’s Manyara region, said Gidioni Mokiwa, the NBS’s regional statistics officer. They also help identify sectors that could attract investment, HabariLeo reports.

According to Gidioni Mokiwa, population growth can stimulate economic activity by increasing demand for goods and services. He was speaking on 17 October 2026 at the fourth Tanzanite Kwaraa trade fair, held in Babati.
