Djibouti’s Research Section has referred four suspects to the judicial authorities in four cybercrime cases, RTD reports. Three cases involve alleged online blackmail and the fourth concerns the possession and distribution of child sexual abuse videos.
The arrests followed reports concerning online blackmail, digital harassment and suspected child sexual abuse offences on social media. Investigators also discovered and seized child sexual abuse material. The suspects face six to ten years’ imprisonment, depending on the criminal charges brought.
The investigations were conducted as part of an awareness campaign on offences committed online, launched by the National Cybersecurity Agency with several institutions, including the National Gendarmerie. The new proceedings continue the awareness work of the National Cybersecurity Agency, which recently informed families in Kartileh about cyber threats.
