Ethiopia’s air traffic could grow sixfold in 20 years

Passenger air traffic in Ethiopia could grow more than sixfold over the next 20 years, according to Airbus. Ethiopian Airlines’ growth and the future Bishoftu airport are expected to strengthen Addis Ababa’s role as an African aviation hub, reports Fanamc.

Air passenger traffic in Ethiopia could grow more than sixfold over the next 20 years, according to Antonio Da Costa, Airbus vice-president for market analysis and forecasting. He attributes the expected growth to the expansion of Ethiopian Airlines’ network, rising demand and aviation infrastructure projects.

Airbus estimates that the Ethiopian airline is well placed to take advantage of this demand and strengthen Addis Ababa’s role as a major aviation hub in Africa. Antonio Da Costa praised the country’s growth potential.

This forecast comes after Ethiopian Airlines resumed flights to Mekelle on 11 October, as announced on 9 October.
