Eni starts 100 million cubic feet-a-day gas facility in Egypt

Eni has started the second phase of the Meleiha gas project in Egypt’s Western Desert, with a facility capable of processing up to 100 million cubic feet of gas per day. Developed with Agiba Petroleum, a joint venture between Eni and Egypt’s state oil company, the project is expected to strengthen domestic market supplies, according to Eni.

Eni, the Italian energy group, has started the second phase of the Meleiha project in Egypt’s Western Desert, with a facility capable of processing up to 100 million standard cubic feet of gas per day. Operations are being carried out by Agiba Petroleum Company, the joint venture between Eni and the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC), according to Daily News Egypt.

The project includes development wells, gathering networks, main transport pipelines and a dedicated export gas pipeline. These infrastructures are intended to connect new production to the existing gas network and increase the availability of natural gas for the domestic market, reports Daily News Egypt. Eni says it produced approximately 242,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day in Egypt on an equity basis in 2025.
