Egypt’s Ministry of Finance has pledged to accelerate reforms to reduce the cost of debt servicing after Moody’s upgraded the country’s rating to B3 with a positive outlook. Public debt stood at 81.9% of gross domestic product in June 2026, and net international reserves reached $57 billion in September, according to the ministry cited by Daily News Egypt.
Egypt will accelerate structural reforms to reduce the cost of servicing its debt more quickly, the Egyptian Ministry of Finance announced after Moody’s upgraded the country’s sovereign rating to B3 with a positive outlook. The ministry attributed the improvement to economic and fiscal reforms, which it said had stabilised public finances and accelerated economic activity, Daily News Egypt reports.
Moody’s expects Egypt’s growth to be supported by continued reforms, fiscal discipline and support for production and exports. The ministry nevertheless acknowledges that the burden of debt servicing remains a challenge for public finances, according to Daily News Egypt.
