Nigerian Health Minister Muhammad Ali Pate said Nigeria is working with Uganda to contain Ebola after a case was detected in Nigeria. Authorities are continuing contact tracing and putting prevention measures in place, he told journalists, according to Vanguard.
Nigeria and Uganda are coordinating measures to contain the imported Ebola case detected in Nigeria, Nigerian Minister of Health and Social Welfare Muhammad Ali Pate said on Wednesday, 21 October. The country is tracing contacts and putting containment measures in place, he told the press after a meeting of the presidential Ebola response task force.
Pate urged the public to remain vigilant without panicking and to follow information from recognised health sources. He said the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) was managing the response and that a report was due to be presented to him. The authorities had also begun reviewing response plans at a National Security Council meeting, he added.
The minister recalled that Nigeria had already managed an Ebola outbreak in 2014. The current case is imported and remains, according to him, the only case detected in the country. Nigerian authorities confirmed the case in Abuja on 20 October, then announced that they were tracing its contacts with Uganda in an earlier update on the health investigation.
