Burkina Faso’s National Police seized nearly 400 motorcycles in three hours in Ouagadougou on the night of Friday 23 October 2026 during checks on compulsory helmet use. The “Hard Head Shield” operation is continuing after an initial round of checks, according to the National Police, quoted by Beninwebtv.
The regional director of the National Police in Kadiogo, Aguima Abdoulaziz Yonli, led the operation with the central police commissioner of Ouagadougou and the commander of the Anti-Crime Brigade. Officers checked control measures at several junctions. They said the night-time checks were prompted by some drivers becoming less vigilant after dark.
From 1 to 3 October, officers had checked 14,165 road users nationwide. They impounded 3,231 vehicles, while 9,799 drivers paid their fines and presented a helmet. These nationwide checks preceded the targeted seizure in Ouagadougou. The police had also announced this tally in an earlier article on 14,165 road users checked.
