The home of Bruno Fernandes, Manchester United’s captain and midfielder, was burgled on Wednesday evening in Cheshire, England, while he was in Italy with his club. Cheshire Police confirmed the burglary, the BBC reports.
The player’s family was not present. The suspects are believed to have spent less than five minutes in the house before police arrived. Officers responded after three unknown men were reported in the back garden of a neighbouring property, according to the BBC.
Inspector David Jarvis, of the Macclesfield proactive investigation unit, said the investigation was in its early stages and that police were seeking to identify those responsible. Manchester United is supporting Fernandes, the BBC also reports.
The burglary took place as Manchester United faced Como in the Champions League. The English club lost 4-1 in the match on 21 October, which was already marked by Fernandes’ criticism of manager Michael Carrick after the game (his reaction to the defeat by Como).
