The Arewa Consultative Forum has asked the Nigerian government to publish the terms and benefits of the $700 billion mining agreement with the United States. Its spokesperson Tukur Mohammed-Baba says transparency is needed to prevent mistrust, according to an interview broadcast by Arise Television.
The Arewa Consultative Forum, an organisation representing the interests of northern Nigeria, has asked the federal government to publish details of the $700 billion mining agreement with the United States. Its National Publicity Secretary, Tukur Mohammed-Baba, made the request on Saturday during an interview on Arise TV.
The forum wants to know the agreement's terms, benefits and consequences, saying a deal of this scale cannot be shrouded in secrecy while Nigerians are facing economic hardship. Tukur Mohammed-Baba called on President Bola Tinubu's administration to make the full text public to avoid mistrust and suspicion, according to Daily Post.
Nigeria and the United States signed a framework for cooperation on critical minerals on 23 September 2026 at Nigeria House in New York, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, the Nigerian media outlet reported.
