Artificial intelligence could affect 40% of jobs worldwide, with particularly significant consequences for emerging and low-income economies. At the IMF and World Bank annual meetings in Bangkok, Kristalina Georgieva called for investment in electricity and digital infrastructure, Pmnewsnigeria reports.

Artificial intelligence could affect 40% of jobs worldwide, the managing director of the International Monetary Fund, Kristalina Georgieva, said during the annual meetings of the IMF and World Bank in Bangkok, Pmnewsnigeria reports.

More than 15,000 participants from 191 countries examined the technology’s effects on the economy and labour market. Kristalina Georgieva described AI as a “slow-moving tsunami”, while emerging and low-income economies are among those most exposed, according to Pmnewsnigeria.

World Bank President Ajay Banga called for the development of AI tools adapted to local realities. He believes these solutions could help subsistence farmers, in particular, find customers more quickly and increase their productivity.

Ajay Banga also said that 1.2 billion young people would reach the age of 18 over the next 15 years. The private sector, which provides between 75% and 80% of jobs in many countries, will have to absorb most of this new workforce, he added.
