Benin’s Justice Minister, Yvon Detchénou, set out the guidelines for the 2026-2027 judicial year on 17 October at the judicial conference in Cotonou, Matin Libre reports. He announced a management approach based on activity indicators, performance targets and the digitalisation of services.
The new instructions require court lists to be published 48 hours in advance and rulings to be signed within eight days. Lists are to be organised around 50 cases per hearing, while judges’ hearings will be limited to four hours. The measures are accompanied by 20 guidelines, whose implementation will be monitored by court presidents, prosecutors and chief clerks.
Yvon Detchénou also said annual awards would be presented at the justice sector review or the solemn opening hearing, based on dashboards and reports from the inspector general’s office. The conference also gave judicial officials an opportunity to review the past year and examine the ministry’s performance indicators.
