The measures are intended to ease overcrowding and improve school facilities, according to an Education Ministry statement.

Tunisia’s Education Minister, Noureddine Nouri, has ordered the renovation and expansion of El Wafa secondary school in Raoued, in Ariana Governorate, to address overcrowding. The school has more than 2,500 pupils and 170 teachers, according to a statement published on the Education Ministry’s official page.

The project also includes building an adjacent school, developing sports facilities and improving IT and teaching equipment and school furniture. The measures were announced during a visit on Thursday by Noureddine Nouri, accompanied by, among others, Ariana Governor Walid Sandid and regional education commissioner Nourredine Mekbali.

At Journalists Primary School, construction of a new school, costing more than 1.811 million dinars, is due to begin in early November 2026. The minister also called for the expansion of Journalists Middle School to be accelerated; the first phase is 50% complete, and tenders for the second phase are to be issued in early November. At Raoued 2 Middle School, the improvement programme will be supplemented with a space for pupils during breaks, additional IT equipment and an increase in the operating budget; the project currently under way is worth more than 1.768 million dinars.
