The Sudanese army says it has recaptured Bakori and Akleli, in the Blue Nile region, after operations against the Rapid Support Forces and their allies. The areas were reportedly secured about 55 days after the paramilitaries claimed to have captured them, according to a statement from the Fourth Infantry Division reported by Radio Tamazuj.
The Sudanese army says it has recaptured Bakori and Akleli, two areas in Blue Nile, during operations conducted by its Fourth Infantry Division. In a statement, the division’s command said that the Al-Naba Al-Yaqin forces had driven opposing forces from these positions.
Al-Waleed Ajabna, head of the division’s command and operations centre, said in an audio recording that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a Sudanese paramilitary group, and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) had been pushed back. The division also said that the Martyr Adrob forces had taken part in the operation and that operations would continue against the retreating fighters.
The RSF announced on 28 August that it had taken control of the Bakori military base, located in the Geissan locality and home to the headquarters of the Sudanese army’s 13th Infantry Brigade. The army’s claimed recapture came about 55 days after that announcement. Control of Akleli is also of military significance in the area.
The announcement comes after several claims of control over positions in the Blue Nile region. On 21 October, the RSF allegedly took Al-Baraka, then forces allied with the RSF claimed Al-Birka on 22 October.
