Stanbic Bank Zimbabwe has doubled its annual contribution to the Cancer Association of Zimbabwe to US$50,000 to fund chemotherapy medicines. The bank describes the support as part of a partnership lasting more than a decade with people affected by cancer, according to 263Chat.

Stanbic Bank Zimbabwe, a subsidiary of Standard Bank Group, has doubled its annual donation to the Cancer Association of Zimbabwe to US$50,000. The contribution is intended to fund chemotherapy treatment for cancer patients, according to Tariro Memo, Stanbic Bank Zimbabwe’s head of brand and marketing.

The donation extends a partnership of more than a decade between the bank and the Cancer Association of Zimbabwe, an organisation founded in 1961 that conducts awareness, counselling and patient advocacy work and supports families. Tariro Memo said the bank’s assistance had taken different forms over the years, while aiming to ease the burden of cancer and improve access to care.

Stanbic Bank Zimbabwe also wants to help extend awareness and care services beyond major urban centres, particularly to rural areas. The bank includes this support in its social investment programmes, which focus in particular on health and sanitation, according to Tariro Memo.
