The ceremony will bring together government officials, diplomats and civil society representatives, according to Radio Tamazuj.

South Sudanese President Salva Kiir is scheduled to open the condolence book for General Joseph Lagu Yanga, the former military leader of the liberation struggle, at the National Parliament on Thursday morning, according to the funeral committee quoted by Radio Tamazuj. Government officials, diplomatic representatives and other dignitaries have been invited to gather there before his arrival.

Ambassador John Andruga Duku, a committee member, asked guests to arrive before 7am and warned that access would be restricted for security reasons. The public and groups not included in the initial programme will be able to sign the book under separate arrangements, after the president and senior officials have paid their respects. National flags will remain at half-mast until the burial.

Preparations for the grave are about 80% complete, said Presidential Affairs Minister and committee chairman Bol Wek Agoth. The concrete work has been completed and the remaining work must be finished before the burial ceremony, whose date depends on completion of the grave.
