The Nigerian Senate has called for the urgent rehabilitation of the federal road linking Onitsha, Ogbaru and Ndoni, between Anambra and Rivers states. Around 70 kilometres long, the badly deteriorated infrastructure now extends journeys to almost two hours and is hurting commercial activity, according to Senator Tony Nwoye.

The Nigerian Senate has called for the urgent rehabilitation of the Onitsha-Ogbaru-Ndoni federal road, which links Anambra State to Rivers State, the Daily Post reports. The resolution followed a motion presented by Tony Nwoye, senator for the Anambra North constituency.

According to Tony Nwoye, this route linking, among others, Onitsha, Iyiowa, Odekpe, Atani, Ogwuikpele and Ndoni is a strategic federal road between Nigeria’s South-East and South-South geopolitical zones. Partly built in the late 1980s, it has suffered decades of neglect without any major rehabilitation, according to the Daily Post.
