Niger creates committee to secure fuel supplies

Nigerien Prime Minister Mahaman Ali Lamine Zeine chairs a committee tasked with securing fuel supplies and clearing debts between the state and oil industry players within three months. The body is also expected to raise output at the Zinder refinery from 15,000 to 20,000 barrels a day, according to Tamtaminfo.

Niger has set up a technical committee to manage crises involving petroleum products and structure the debts between the state and players in the oil supply chain. The body was established at a ceremony at the office of Prime Minister Mahaman Ali Lamine Zeine on Monday 12 October 2026, Tamtaminfo reports.

Chaired by the Nigerien prime minister, the committee must ensure the continuous availability of hydrocarbons throughout the country, increase output at the Zinder Refining Company (SORAZ) and clear debts accumulated between the state and oil operators within three months. It will also coordinate public and private sector action, as Niger keeps fuel prices unchanged.
