The Mozambican government plans to formalise and monitor businesses operating on the internet, Council of Ministers spokesman Inocêncio Impissa announced. The measure is intended to track economic activities carried out on digital platforms and forms part of the implementation of a recently approved decree on electronic transactions and digital commerce.
The Digital Transformation Agency will notably be responsible for monitoring online operators, Impissa said in Maputo on the sidelines of the 30th ordinary session of the Council of Ministers. He cited as activities concerned commerce conducted by people using blogs, radio channels or television channels.
The spokesman said the system would be implemented progressively and would involve several public bodies. The Ministry of Communications will work with the National Social Communication Council and other institutions in the sector to reconcile the development of digital activities with their supervision by the state.
