More than 2.5 million South African voters are taking part in special voting ahead of the municipal elections, with the second day held on Tuesday. The vote comes as residents of Bronkhorstspruit face drinking-water problems, TimesLIVE reports, citing Tshwane’s mayor among others.

The second day of special voting for South Africa’s municipal elections took place on Tuesday at some polling stations in Johannesburg amid local difficulties, with more than 2.5 million voters eligible to vote early, TimesLIVE reports.

Residents of Bronkhorstspruit are still facing problems with drinking water quality. Tshwane mayor Nasiphi Moya asked them on Tuesday not to drink tap water until an official statement confirms it is safe, according to TimesLIVE.

Early voting is for groups including older people and voters unable to travel on the official election day. The municipal elections are taking place amid deteriorating public services in several communities, including Maheights, where residents are collecting water from a river, TimesLIVE reports.
