Lawyer for complainants defends complaint targeting Tshisekedi associates

Congolese lawyer Hervé Diakiese said searches carried out on 14 October in Brussels and its surrounding areas showed the seriousness of a complaint targeting associates of President Félix Tshisekedi. Filed in July 2025 by civil society organisations from Grand Katanga, it concerns suspected corruption, embezzlement and money laundering linked to mining resources, Radio Okapi reports; the guilt of those targeted has not been established.

The searches carried out in Belgium as part of the investigation into suspected money laundering targeting associates of Félix Tshisekedi constitute an important step in the proceedings, said Hervé Diakiese, a lawyer for the complainant non-governmental organisations, in an interview with Radio Okapi on Saturday 17 October.

Mr Diakiese said the operations showed that the judicial authorities were taking the complaint seriously. He nevertheless stressed that the guilt of the people targeted had not been established. The Belgian searches notably targeted people close to the president of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
