Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC), Kenya’s public electricity supplier, plans power cuts in 11 counties on Thursday 22 October for network maintenance and upgrades, Tuko reports. The company said the outages would begin at 8am or 9am and end between 4pm and 5pm, depending on the areas affected.

The interruptions will affect residential areas, markets, hospitals and public institutions, among other places. In Nyali, in Mombasa County, the outage is scheduled from 9am to 5pm and will affect Kongowea, Frere Town and Bombolulu, among other areas. Outages are also scheduled from 9am to 5pm in Mvindeni, Zigira and Ukunda Posta, in Kwale County. Kwa Vonza Secondary and several neighbouring localities in Kitui County are also on the schedule.

KPLC said the periodic interruptions are intended to maintain or upgrade lines, connect new customers and replace equipment during roadworks. The company said the operations are scheduled in accordance with Rule 27 of Kenya’s electricity regulations.

The work is part of a series of network operations announced by Kenya Power in recent days. The company had scheduled outages in three counties on 20 October, followed by 13 counties on 21 October.
