Julius Moloi evicted over nearly 40,000 rands in unpaid rent

Former Moja Love presenter Julius Moloi was evicted from a property in Klerksdorp after running up nearly 40,000 rands in unpaid rent. An agreement provided for weekly payments of 2,000 rands, but only one payment is said to have been made, according to TimesLIVE, citing a North West rental tribunal ruling.

Former South African presenter Julius Moloi, known as Bishop Moloi, was evicted in July from a rented property in Klerksdorp after running up a debt of 38,987 rands to his landlady, Christine Herbst. The North West Rental Housing Tribunal had found him liable for 31,000 rands in arrears in May, according to the Sunday Times.

The monthly rent for the house in Meiringspark was 7,000 rands. An agreement reached on 20 July required Moloi to repay his debt in weekly instalments of 2,000 rands, but he is said to have made only one payment. An unpaid municipal bill of about 21,000 rands was also added to the amount claimed.

A writ of execution to recover 41,173 rands was issued on 6 July. The ERA Estate agency was trying to have the former presenter’s belongings seized. He did not respond to the Sunday Times’ requests for comment. The landlady said the situation had caused her financial difficulties and made it harder to pay her mortgage.

Julius Moloi presented the television programmes “Amabishop” and “Child Manyonyoba”. His nearby property, which had been converted into a school, has since closed. In June 2023, he was also accused in a case involving the alleged sale of an RDP house for 150,000 rands.
