Gabon plans to increase excise duties on imported wines, champagnes, beers and tobacco in 2027, according to details presented by Gabonclic. The measure is expected to increase the tax burden on these products and could affect imports and prices, the Gabonese outlet reports.

Gabon’s 2027 finance bill plans to raise by three to five percentage points the excise duties applied to imported wines, champagnes, beers and tobacco. The measure is among the tax provisions currently being examined by Parliament, Gabonclic reports.

The increase affects four categories of imported products and could put further pressure on prices, as well as increase the risk of fraud at the borders. Gabonclic questions whether the mechanism will be able to prevent these taxes from being evaded, as lawmakers examine Gabon’s 2027 budget bill.

The measure is part of the 2027 Gabonese budget, which also provides for investment in infrastructure and economic diversification.
